About Us

CAPA Founder

CAPA   founder Dorothy Todd grew up on a Crow Indian Reservation in Montana   and Wyoming. She went to both high school and college in Billings,   Montana. She had two daughters, a son, and three grandchildren. Dorothy   passed away on August 4, 2012 after a long and productive life.

Dorothy  started painting in 1967  and her first painted pieces were two Limoges  jardinières with  grounding, raised paste and gold with hunting scenes  on each. Over the  years she studied with many teachers too numerous to  name. She herself  began teaching in 1970 and founded CAPA eight years  later in 1978

As  the founder of  CAPA, Dorothy was able to pull porcelain painters  together from all  over California. Under her guidance, CAPA established  its convention  guidelines and presented its first show. She also set  CAPA’s education  program in motion to bring teachers from all over the  country, and  world, to teach CAPA members.

Thanks in large part to her efforts through the years; porcelain painting has achieved a greater art status.

Our Mission

What  does CAPA do for you? This question has  been addressed many times in  many ways. In fact, the benefits of  belonging to CAPA are printed in the  front of the roster, so you can  always check there.

The  answer to  this age-old question may be different for each of us. For a  member the  most important this CAPA does for us is provide opportunities  to meet  meet, and get to know, many wonderful people throughout the  different  groups. The camaraderie and friendships that we have  witnessed, and  experienced, among china painters is undoubtedly the best  thing CAPA  does for its members.
